The Melwa Foundation was set up in 2010 to administer and maintain the group’s philanthropic endeavors. As part of the company’s ethos to be a part of uplifting the community at large, The Melwa foundation is involved in improving accessibility to quality education and healthcare for the underprivileged members of society. In addition, The Melwa Foundation engages in multiple non-profit construction projects across the island to further bolster education and healthcare infrastructure.

A pivotal initiative in the realm of healthcare philanthropy undertaken by the Melwa Foundation is ‘Suraksha,’ a nonprofit pediatric ward that was established and is actively maintained since 2019. Within the Suraksha ward, a ‘Child Development Clinic’ has been established with the primary mission of delivering top-tier medical care to children at no cost to patients. Presently, this pediatric ward is fully equipped with essential facilities, and our future plans encompass the incorporation of a pioneering pediatric physiotherapy ward by 2025, the first of its kind in the immediate locale.
Furthermore, another strategic objective of the foundation involves the procurement and provision of essential medications to the disadvantaged segments of society, often at minimal to no cost. The significance of these foundation activities was markedly underscored during the pandemic and subsequent economic challenges, where our efforts played a critical role in alleviating the burdens exacerbated by medication shortages.

The Melwa Foundation demonstrates a steadfast commitment to promoting education accessibility and addressing illiteracy challenges within Sri Lanka. Each year, the foundation orchestrates a book donation campaign, revitalizing libraries in underserved schools and regions. Furthermore, The Melwa Group places a significant emphasis on empowering its workforce through education, extending interest-free loans and grants to facilitate their pursuit of higher education. This program is further extended to provide financial aid to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are pursuing higher education. Additionally, on an annual basis, The Melwa Foundation identifies schools in marginalized areas and financially supports the construction of essential facilities and infrastructure to enhance the educational environment for young learners. Moreover, a dedicated funding stream is available to these schools to assist children in need, ensuring their uninterrupted educational journey.
