According to him MELWA has taken steps to export locally manufactured steel to the Canadian market continuously on a monthly basis. By exporting a large supply of steel wire from Sri Lanka to the Canadian construction market, MELWA has been able to elevate its brand in the global construction market. MELWA Conglomerate, one of the country’s leading steel manufacturers, made history with its brand entry into the Canadian construction industry by exporting a reinforcement steel Consignment to Canada yesterday, marking Sri Lanka on the global map.
MELWA has achieved this significant breakthrough with its first-ever large-scale export of 15,000 metric tons of reinforcement steel to the Canadian construction market. This landmark consignment marks the MELWA brand’s entry into one of the world’s most competitive construction arenas, positioning Sri Lankan steel on the global stage. Beyond its commercial success, this achievement reflects the country’s growing participation in international infrastructure projects while making a meaningful contribution to national export growth and vital foreign exchange earnings.
One of MELWA directors P.P. Muruganadhan said that MELWA engineered special 15m and 18m reinforcement bars at the request of the Canadian construction industry, marking a first for Sri Lanka. These bars were specifically tailored to meet the demanding requirements of large-scale Canadian infrastructure projects and manufactured in compliance with British and Canadian standards. With ISO-certified processes, state-of-the-art testing facilities, and continuous research and development, MELWA upholds international quality standards while ensuring sustainable and responsible manufacturing practices. MELWA delivers steel of the highest global standards through a seamless integration of technology, safety, and operational excellence. This historic shipment is more than a corporate achievement, it is a national milestone, showcasing Sri Lankan industrial strength to the world and reinforcing the country’s role in international infrastructure development, he added.
